Description: After some snow on the South Downs Halnaker Windmill was transformed in to a winter wonderland. Unfortunately when these images where taken, the Sun did not have the same enthusiasim as i did and that resulted in some grey skys, though they have a stormy appearance to them. The fence line is a very usefull lead in line. This is one of my favorite places to photograph and a popular place to bring students.

Description: After the heaviest snow in the past 30 years, the South Downs was blanketed. Having only seen a few inches of snow here in the past, it was a contrast of seeing almost 12 inches and 15inches in the drifts. The setting Sun catches the mill and starts to empahsise the contours of the snow.

Description: During the harsh Winter conditions, even the slowest parts of the River Arun freezed over. The two Swans at Stopham Bridge, seemed quite content to sleep here in these conditions. The scheduled ancient monument was once the old main road bridge bewteen Pulborough and Petworth. The new bridge is behind the old and cannot be scene in this image due to carefull framing.

Description: After heavy snow in January, the landscape was changed for several weeks. This line of trees has always caught my eye for a photograph, yet it never had the right confitions. the snow gave me what i was looking for, a high contrast black and white image. these trees are situated close to Marrindean lane, Billingshurst.

Description: Halnaker Windmill sits on top of the South Downs near Chichester. This image was taken in Janurary 2010 after the heaviest snow for more than 20 years. Taken near sunset, the mill has taken on a wonderfull warm glow. Available on all media at 15 inches or 30inches wide

Description: This image was taken opposite the Swan Garden Center in Pulbourough during the recent heavy snow of 2010. As you can see, even the tidal River Arun has started to freeze over, something i have not witnessed before.

Description: Chanctonbury Hill commands a high spot in West Sussex Downland and is a major feature of the new South Dwons National Park. During the heavy snowfall of early December i took on the arduous walk up to the summit through freezing fog and deep snow. Its a fairly unique image of the trees in this amount of snow and from this angle.

Description: High above the Sussex Weald, the South Downs National Park has a wealh of beautiful landscapes. Here we can see the last golden light touching down on Chanctonbury Hill in the far distance. The Downs deflect much of the snow, either pushing it along the coast or helping protect the foothills from large amounts of snow. There is barely two inches on the ground, yet towards Horhsam inland there was 3-4 inches!

Description: Taken during the heavy snow fall of December 2010, this field of sheep where finding food hard to come by as the depth of snow prevented them finding the grass. The farmer had placed several bales of hay within the field for them. In the background you can see Chanctonbury Hill and the famous hill fort.

Description: A snow storm in April renders many areas of the Sussex Weald under a few inches of snow. This particular image was taken on the Pulborough brooks at the heigt of the strom.
